Ear Training for Instrumentalists

Imagine …You are invited to bring your instrument to participate in a sing-along. You show up eager and full of anticipation, only to discover that there are no notes, lead sheets, songbooks or tabs. There you are with your instrument, expected to play, but you have no idea how to join in.

This workshop is for people who play keyboard, guitar, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, autoharp or other accompanying instruments; from beginners who know a few chords to accomplished players. No note reading skills necessary! You will learn how to develop your musical ear in order to be able to participate in music making in the moment. In just two days you will be able to:

  • find the chords that match the song

  • create simple, effective accompaniments

  • use the chord “families” to help you easily transpose a song to different keys to fit the singer’s range

The retreat includes:

  • Two-day weekend workshop; two 90-minute sessions per day

  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner home-cooked from the on-site organic garden

  • Cozy shared rooms, linens provided; single rooms on request

  • Downtime options of Yoga and meditation, walking and running trails
